Luminaries are a GO for Sunday!

This Sunday (Dec 16th) is Luminaria Day.

WHAT IS IT?
Troop 638 will spend much of the day putting out candles and bags in the
vicinity of Glenwood Circle for the Luminiaria that evening. It's a big job
(we cover about 5 miles of curbs and put out about 10,000 candles and bags)
and we need a lot of help.
Homeowners in the neighborhood pay us to do this, and I pay each boy for the
amount of time he works. The money goes into his scout account which helps
defray the cost of camping trips, Summer Camp, etc. I also add in the time
spent working by family and friends, so a scout can end up with several
hundred dollars in his account at the end of the day. So parents, siblings,
and others, please join us.

We will start at my house (1917 Vicklan St) at 8AM on Sunday.
Scouts should wear their green scout tee shirts
(it is going to be VERY cold on Sunday so please dress accordingly we do not
want any of you to get sick with semester exams coming up next week), or their
Class A uniform.
The boys will spend much of the day working at trailers that are pulled down
the streets. Lunch will be provided by Goldies Express.
If the boys are not available to start at 8AM, please have them come for as
much of the day as possible.
Hopefully we will finish up by 2-3 in the afternoon. If we are done by
then,
the boys can either hang, or go home, but we would like them back about 5PM
to help light the candles.
The neighborhood is suppose to do this, but we
always need to pitch in where candles are not lit. This should take another
hour or two.

RECORD KEEPING
I will have a clipboard at my house. Please help the boys (and helpers)
remember to sign in and out so they can get credit for the time they work.

SAFETY
Safety is a big deal. These boys will be working in the street much of the
day and we don't want anyone to get hurt. There will be a short safety
lecture before they go out in the morning. If your scout comes late, please
have him come by my house first (even if you see a group working somewhere
while driving to my house). I need them to sign in and to spend a few
minutes talking to them about safety.

CLEANUP
Please meet back at my house Monday Dec 17th at 4PM so we can pick up all
the candles and bags. The boys will get paid for this time too.
